On February 17, 2023, WINGS OF CHANGE opened its first doors to the "Atelier de Couture" for young girls of Ambatozavavy village who are enthusiastic to become professional dressmakers. The workshop was well-attended by enthusiastic girls eager to learn the craft of sewing and dressmaking while improving their English.
Atelier de Couture is a specialized program designed to teach young village girls the art of dressmaking, a skill that can provide them with a means to earn a living and support their families. The program aims to empower young girls by providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to become self-sufficient and financially independent.
The training program is comprehensive and covers all aspects of dressmaking, from basic techniques such as measuring and cutting fabric, to advanced techniques such as draping and pattern-making. The program also includes lessons on design principles, color theory, and fabric selection, which are essential for creating aesthetically pleasing garments.
One of the program's primary objectives is to provide young village girls with a safe and supportive environment in which to learn and grow. All these selected girls come from impoverished backgrounds and have not had access to educational opportunities or a supportive community. Atelier de Couture provides them with a sense of belonging and purpose, as well as a network of peers and mentors.
The workshop also places a strong emphasis on sustainability and ethical practices. The instructors teach students how to use eco-friendly materials and techniques, as well as how to repurpose old garments and fabrics. These practices not only benefit the environment but also provide a unique selling point for the garments produced by the students.
Atelier de Couture is an inspiring initiative that empowers young girls in the village by teaching them a valuable skill that can provide them with a means to support themselves and their families. The workshop's comprehensive training program, experienced instructors, and focus on sustainability and ethics make it a unique and valuable resource for the community.
